Microsoft Lync Server is Microsoft's first major foray into the voice market and it's an amazing product.
What you get out of the box is integration with Windows, Outlook, Exchange Server, Sharepoint Server. That means all users in your organisation can not only email each other from their machines to collaborate, but also use Instant Messaging, Desktop Video Conferencing, Telephone Communication AND Screen Sharing. This is a holy grail for many organisations. It no longer matters where employers are they can work together seamlessly.
Outside of the organisation calls can be routed via SIP Trunks and VoIP, and with Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype in October 2011, we can only expect this product to become bigger and better.
Integrating Voice and Data systems, especially business critical ones, requires specialist knowledge and experience. HTL are perfectly positioned to offer Lync to your organisation. As a certified Microsoft Partner we have demonstrated expertise on the Microsoft range of Server and Desktop platforms, and we have had years of experience in the Voice space with our Avaya products.
The downside of Lync is the price, but if you have a highly dynamic, distributed and professional workforce, the savings in time and efficiency may easily justify the cost. Whatever your budget, it's definitely worth a peek.
